The RCIL mission is to ensure a fully accessible, integrated society that enables full participation by people with disabilities. We believe that everyone has the basic human right of contributing to and participating in society as a self-determining individual. This principle translates into everything we do, including the way we run the agency and treat our employees.
We know from experience that one size does not fit all. We recognize that most people -- regardless of disability -- need some sort of accommodation (for instance, an ergonomic keyboard or part-time job sharing), and everyone needs flexibility, whether it's to pick up kids at day care or attend an unexpected doctor's appointment.

As one of the largest independent living centers in the nation, RCIL is at the forefront of the disability rights movement. We welcome and appreciate diversity in all its forms. Our staff tend to be creative self-starters who are good at building relationships and juggling multiple priorities -- independent, yet able to work on a team of dedicated individuals. Oh, and a sense of humor is mandatory.
What's RCIL like to work for?
Our executive director's open door policy sets the tone for the entire agency -- employees are encouraged to attend trainings and constantly expand their knowledge. They're also integrated into the running of the agency (for example, the weekly Managers' Meeting is open to all employees). Rather than being expected to keep quiet and surrender to barriers within the human service delivery system, employees are urged to rock the boat, start debate, and help make positive change happen. To achieve this end, advocacy is written into every employee's job description, regardless of position.
