Adult Day Services

Is your parent, sibling, or adult child with a disability interested in being out in the community? Social interaction is an important part of our quality of life and staying healthy, especially as we age. Whether caused by a broken hip, diminished vision, impaired memory, or some other disability, isolation can become a challenge for families and individuals alike.

Programs such as In-Home Respite and RCIL's Adult Day Services program are designed to support individuals with disabilities who are interested in staying in the community rather than in a nursing home. The Adult Day Services program takes place in a friendly, integrated environment -- individuals of all ages and disabilities find they have something valuable to share. Participants enjoy a broad range of individualized services:

  • Wide array of recreational, therapeutic, educational, and cultural activities
  • Development of individual service plan
  • Supervision and monitoring
  • Service coordination
  • Personal care, as needed
  • Evaluation by physical, occupational, and speech therapy consultants, as needed
  • One-on-one supportive exercise assistance when needed
  • Nutritious meals and snacks
  • Transportation with bus escort assistance
  • Hairdresser service
  • Support groups for caregivers and participants
  • Medication assistance

In addition, the BRIDGE to Independence program sponsored by the New York State Office for the Aging links elderly residents with disabilities from the Municipal Housing Authority and low-income senior housing to RCIL's programs and services. The BRIDGE outreach program is an extension of the wide variety of supports offered by Adult Day Services, including on-site activities, educational programs, assistive devices, advocacy, and information and referral. By improving and maintaining quality of life for the elderly in our community, we strive toward the goal of making integrated living the norm.

Thanks to a grant from the Brookdale Foundation Group, RCIL now offers a social adult day program for individuals with Alzheimer's Disease and related dementias in Inlet, New York. The program serves residents of Hamilton and northern Herkimer counties. It takes place one day a week in the Community Room of the Inlet Town Hall, where participants enjoy a variety of social, recreational, and therapeutic programs in a safe, supervised setting. This extension of RCIL's Elderly Services program, which has been serving the Oneida County area for over 18 years, also includes essential support services for caregivers.
