Recovery Through Employment
Like anyone else, people involved in substance abuse treatment programs benefit from having a chance to contribute to their community through productive employment. With proper supports, individuals find that.
- their well-being and overall functioning improve,
- rate of relapse is reduced, and
- the likelihood of successfully finding and retaining employment increases.
As with all RCIL programs, participation is voluntary, confidential, and self-directed. Individuals receiving or eligible for Temporary Aid to Needy Families (TANF) or Safety Net and currently involved with an OASAS-certified treatment program are eligible for Recovery Through Employment services that include the following:
- Comprehensive Vocational/Educational Assessment -- Staff work with the individual to gather relevant information and develop a plan aimed at increasing the persons ability to become suitably employed.
- Vocational Counseling -- RCIL helps individuals understand the results of their vocational assessment, explore potential career options, establish vocational goals, and develop and implement a plan to achieve those goals.
- Work Readiness/Employability Skills Training -- Training develops effective communication skills, coping strategies, and appropriate work attitudes, behaviors, and language.
- Career Exploration -- Exposes individuals to career options within the context of their abilities and aspirations.
- Life Skills Training -- Develops hygiene and grooming habits, communication skills, stress management, and budgeting and money management techniques.
- Job Search Preparation -- Assists individuals to hone the skills associated with resume writing, job interviews, and correctly filling out job applications.
