As a doctor, you want to provide high quality medical care to your patients. When you have a patient who is Deaf, the visit is complicated by a lack of clear communication. The communication between you and your Deaf patient, if not managed properly, can cause misunderstandings in diagnosis, medication and follow-up procedures.
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires medical offices to provide appropriate auxiliary aids to ensure effective communication between doctors and Deaf patients. This often means the presence of a qualified sign language interpreter. Under the ADA, these fees are the responsibility of the physician. At RCIL, we recognize that these fees can quickly add up.
