FREE Cultural Competency Training on February 28th in Herkimer
Herkimer, NY, February 17, 2017: The Resource Center for Independent Living (RCIL) is pleased to announce it will be offering a Cultural Competency Training on Tuesday, February 28th from 9am – noon at the Resource Center for Independent Living (RCIL) (located at 401 E. German Street in Herkimer). This training is FREE and open to the general public.
The training will focus on refugees in our communities, concepts of culture, personal awareness, and tips and strategies for working within diverse communities. Presentation goals include the following:
- Have a basic understanding of who refugees are and why they come here.
- Embark on the first step towards developing cultural competence: Awareness.
- Examine concepts of culture: group orientation, time orientation, communication styles.
- Gain basic knowledge about populations in the Mohawk Valley (Bosnian, Burmese, Karen, Russian, and Spanish).
