Employment Specialist (Utica and Amsterdam offices)

RCIL is a civil rights organization that offers individuals with disabilities a wide range of independent living and advocacy services through the numerous programs we manage. The Employment Specialist works under the supervision of the Director of Employment to assist individuals who have disabilities with finding and retaining employment. The Employment Specialist will discover the participant’s strengths, enhance their job readiness skills, and provide pre-vocational training as needed, to maximize their opportunities during job development. For employment success, it’s crucial to as set up consumer files and develop an employment service plan with the consumer, which requires revision every 6 months. The Specialist will also develop new and maintain existing positive relationships with area employers to increase job placement opportunities. As well as provide support in all aspects of securing a job from start to finish, from building a resume, reference list, cover letter, completing and submitting applications, cold calling, securing job contacts, interview transport and attire, thank you letters and follow up support. The Specialist will provide job coaching and job retention supports on an individualized basis to ensure long term successful placements for our participants.
We are looking for an extremely organized, detail orientated candidate with outstanding time management skills and must be flexible with their work schedule. Candidates must be able to attend mandatory meetings and trainings and maintain regular communication with the employment unit.
Successful candidates will have two years working with individuals who have disabilities, plus three years’ general work experience. A minimum of a high school diploma is required and an associate’s degree or higher is preferred. A valid New York State driver’s license and reliable transportation is required to provide transportation for consumers as needed and coordinate needed services.
