Conference Information
The Medical Aid in Dying Act intends to amend the public health law in relation to a terminally ill patient's request for and use of medication for medical aid in dying.
New York State Assembly Bill #A10059 provides that a mentally competent, terminally ill patient may request medication to be self-administered for the purpose of hastening the patient's death, provided that the requirements set forth in the act are met; and to provide certain protection and immunities to health care providers and other persons, including a physician who prescribes medication in compliance with the provisions of the article to the terminally ill patient to be self-administered by the patient.
While the Resource Center for Independent Living will not endorse either side of the issue, they recognize the importance of this legislation to many of their constituents and seek to provide a constructive, healthy environment where voices from both sides may be heard.
This one-day conference will bring together community members and representatives from all sides of the topic for an in-depth discussion. RCIL extends an invitation to the community at large to this conference being held at the Dorothy Smith Center for Advocacy at RCIL (1607 Genesee Street, Utica, NY 13503) on Thursday, November 7th beginning at 9:30am and ending at 4pm. Event Registration is required.
