Direct Support Professional-DSP 1:1 Support Staff

Seeking an open-minded responsible and creative mentor to work with an intelligent and passionate young man with Autism.

Must work with RCIL

In this role you will work alongside this self-directed individual (teen) in supporting his community rehabilitative type goals which include goals that follow along the lines of: Building life skills, independence and safety, as well as assisting him in experiencing social, recreational, and physical fitness opportunities within the community.

The ideal candidate for the DSP position will have effective communication and leadership skills, patience, and strong organizational skills.
Candidate must possess a keen sense of attention to detail, especially when logging each day's time, mileage, and service documentation.
*DSP must have a valid email address.
*Hours and Days: Up to 7 hours weekly. Flexible scheduling, after school hours.
*Pay Rate: $33.50 per hour when providing direct support. (Mileage reimbursement available).

Description

We are looking for an in-home experienced caregiver for our 26-year-old adult daughter who has profound autism and epilepsy. She has good receptive language and can understand most basic directions and questions, but has a lesser degree of expressive language. She responds well to patience (especially with respect to repetitive behaviors and verbal stereotypy), kindness, empathy, and a gentle voice. The role will include preparing her meals, doing simple arts and crafts, and 1:1 assistance with ADLs (hygiene etc). Line of sight required at all times for safety. Prior experience working with adults or children with autism spectrum disorders or neurodevelopmental disabilities is highly preferred; training in ABA and/or speech therapy a plus. Driver’s license and car required. You will need to be onboarded and trained with our fiscal intermediary RCIL. Salary commensurate with experience ($26-$32/hr) through OPWDD self-direction budget. 8-15 hours/week to start (with some weekend evenings), with the possibility of more hours over time. The position is in northern Columbia County in New York State (Chatham area).

The caregiver will need to be comfortable using our ceiling-mounted Hoyer lift for safe transfers. Experience with paraplegic patients and personal care is preferred.
