Celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness Month: Advancing Access and Equity in the Workplace
At RCIL, we believe that inclusion in the workplace strengthens not only our economy but also our communities. In October, we’re proud to join organizations across the nation in celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM)—a time to honor the skills, talents, and contributions of workers with disabilities and to promote equal opportunity for all.
Every October, we celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) — a time to recognize the vital contributions of workers with disabilities and to promote inclusive employment practices that benefit everyone.
At RCIL (Resource Center for Independent Living), we believe that employment is more than a paycheck. It’s a pathway to independence, community engagement, and personal fulfillment. This month, we reaffirm our commitment to creating workplaces where people of all abilities can thrive.
Why Disability Employment Matters
People with disabilities are talented, skilled, and resourceful members of our communities. And yet, they continue to face barriers to employment, including misconceptions about ability, lack of accessible workplaces, and limited awareness among employers.
RCIL’s Role in Supporting Employment
RCIL provides a range of services that promote employment and independence for people with disabilities, including:
Independent Living Skills Training to build confidence and readiness for work
Peer Support and Advocacy to navigate challenges and celebrate successes
Information and Referral Services to connect individuals and employers with local resources
Accessibility Assessments and Training to help businesses become more inclusive
Job Coaching and Job Retention for specialized on-the-job training and support to ensure long-term success
Through these efforts, we work side by side with individuals and employers to build stronger, more inclusive communities.
