The Resource Center for Independent Living (RCIL) in Utica, NY, offers many Family Assistance Programs designed to support families and individuals with disabilities in achieving greater independence and quality of life. These programs are a cornerstone of RCIL’s mission to foster an inclusive society where everyone can thrive.

What RCIL Offers

RCIL’s Family Assistance Programs provide personalized support across several key areas:

Public Benefits Navigation: Advocates assist families in applying for and accessing essential public benefits such as SNAP, Medicaid, and Social Security.
Housing Support: Help with housing applications and home modifications to ensure safe and accessible living environments.
Skill-Building Services: Training in independent living skills like using public transportation, grocery shopping, managing finances, and scheduling appointments.
Information and Referral (I&R): Connecting individuals to community resources and services that promote independence.
Health Education: RCIL’s Public Health Worker offers bi-monthly presentations on topics such as healthy eating, managing seasonal mood changes, and using technology for daily tasks.
Inclusive Eligibility

RCIL’s services are available to anyone with a disability, including those who self-identify as having a disability. No medical documentation is required to access support.
