Amanda Tuthill, Vice President of Self-Direction at RCIL and a lifelong resident of Rome, NY, brings empathy, dedication, and a strong community connection to her role, where she’s spent over eight years supporting individuals and families through impactful services, including leading the transition to a new Electronic Health Record system. Outside of work, Amanda enjoys a fulfilling family life with her husband and three children, balancing her passion for helping others with hobbies like cooking, gardening, and time with her Great Dane—thanks in part to RCIL’s supportive, team-oriented culture and flexible scheduling.
Amanda Tuthill brings dedication, empathy, and a deep-rooted connection to her community in her role as Vice President of Self-Direction at RCIL. A lifelong resident of Rome, NY, Amanda grew up as the middle of three sisters. Today, she and her husband are proud parents to three children of their own.
Amanda has been a valued member of the RCIL team for over eight and a half years. Before joining the organization, she worked at another local human services agency, but when the opportunity arose to support a different population of individuals through RCIL, she took a chance—and never looked back.
One of Amanda’s favorite aspects of her work is seeing the real-life impact of Self-Direction services. “I love supporting the Participants and their families. When I receive calls or emails from them sharing experiences they’ve had because of the services they receive, there is nothing better!”
Among her most significant professional accomplishments is leading the transition to a new Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. This change empowered Participants and their families with better access to their service information and allowed for more efficient reimbursement processing across the board. “It’s been incredibly rewarding to help families learn how to use the system to manage their services more effectively,” she says.
Amanda acknowledges that the road isn’t always smooth. Her team regularly navigates the challenges of changing regulations and the ongoing demand for staffing to support Self-Direction across New York State. Despite these hurdles, Amanda is deeply committed to RCIL’s mission. “To me, the mission means that everyone has the right to the same opportunities and to be treated equally, no matter who they are. We are here to support individuals in making that happen.”
When asked about RCIL’s work culture, Amanda describes it as welcoming and team-oriented: “You will always find a friendly face and someone willing to help you. Team members support one another and collaborate across departments every day.”
Outside the office, Amanda enjoys a rich home life filled with family, cooking, baking, gardening, reading, and spending time with the family’s beloved Great Dane. Thanks to RCIL’s flexible scheduling, including every other Friday off, she’s able to balance work and life with time set aside for errands, appointments, and most importantly—making memories with her family.
