Companion Care Aide (Per-Diem)

Per-Diem Position

Starting Pay Rate: $17.55 per hour

Purpose: To ensure that participants of the Many Hearts Companion Care Program at RCIL receive services tailored to their wants/needs.  

Job Duties:

The successful candidate will be expected to preform the following in accordance to the consumer’s approved plan:

  • Provide personal care
  • Provide stimulating, person-centered and engaging activities
  • Assist with transportation, running errands with or for the participant
  • Assist with scheduling medical and/or social appointments
  • Reminders to take medication
  • Meal planning and/or preparation, light household tasks, assist with home activities
  • Providing companionship and engage in meaningful conversation
  • Emotional support including talking with and listening to participant with respect, being nonjudgmental, showing care and compassion
  • Provide assistance to the participant to remains safe in their home through observation, and assistance with tasks
  • Keep accurate daily notes for all services provided

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Reading and writing in English, basic computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft office
  • Good interpersonal, communication and active listening skills
  • Maintain confidentiality of all consumer and work related information
  • Must have flexibility in adapting to new situations, sensitive to the needs of others, reliable and able to handle emergencies.
  • The ability to understand and carry out directions and instructions in the approved plan.
  • Must have adequate verbal and written communication skills, good interpersonal skills, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to establish effective relationships, responsiveness to working with the elderly population, ability to prepare accurate daily notes.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, reliable vehicle with valid auto insurance
  • Must be at least 18 years old

Education and Experience:

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent is required
  • Experience working with the elderly population preferred however, training will be provided by Many Hearts Companion Care at RCIL
